Old Franklin, New Franklin — Two Different Gutter Jobs
The historic district around downtown and Hincheyville is classic old-canopy territory: mature maples and oaks over steep, detailed Victorian rooflines. These gutters load up fast, and the houses under them punish neglect — overflow finds hundred-year-old fascia boards quickly. This is careful ladder work, and it’s some of our favorite.
Fieldstone Farms has quietly become mature itself — the landscaping planted in the ’90s is full-grown now, and homes near the Harpeth River greenway carry real leaf load every fall. Meanwhile McKay’s Mill and Westhaven (2000s-era) have younger trees but big, cut-up rooflines with long runs and lots of valleys — the kind where one packed downspout means a waterfall over the front porch during a spring storm.
And everything near the Harpeth shares one truth: the river is where all that foundation runoff eventually goes, but Franklin’s clay doesn’t hurry it there. Overflow stands where it lands, which is why crawlspace moisture calls around here so often trace back to one dead downspout.

When to Book in Franklin
Franklin’s leaf drop runs later than people expect. The hardwoods around Westhaven and Fieldstone Farms hold into late November most years, and clearing in early November means doing it twice. Late November into early December is the right window for a single fall cleaning.
Spring is the other one, and it matters more here than most realize — March through May storms bring down green litter and small limbs, and that is when valleys pack. If you only do one visit a year, do it in fall. If you do two, make the second one late spring.

Gutter Detailing and Brightening in Franklin
Cleaning the inside of a gutter and cleaning the outside of it are two different jobs, and most people searching for gutter detailing or gutter washing mean the second one. The black vertical streaking down the face — tiger striping — is oxidised aluminium and road film bonded to the finish. It is not debris, and no amount of clearing the trough will touch it.
It shows up hardest on the white and bronze runs common across Westhaven, McKay’s Mill and Fieldstone Farms, which is also why Franklin HOAs write more letters about it than anywhere else we work. The treatment is a surfactant wash of the gutter face rather than pressure, which would strip the coating. Franklin splits neatly in two on repairs. Downtown and the older streets off Main have systems old enough that fasteners have worked loose from softened fascia, and half-round runs where the seams were soldered rather than sealed.
